Ten Great Places That You Have To Visit In Congo
Ten Great Places That You Have To Visit In Congo
Author: Jonathan Williams
Congo is one of the countries in Central Africa and is also called the Democratic Republic of Congo. This country is made popular by its many national parks that have made the list of the UNESCO World Heritage List. When in Congo, do remember to visit these 10 great places, most of them national parks.
1.) Virunga National Park
This got listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is a protected piece of land. What you will see here are a diversity of Congo's native floras and faunas. Among the most popular animals to see here are its mountain gorillas as well as its hippopotamuses.
2.) Kahuzi-Biega National Park
This is also listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Here, you will see some extinct volcanoes that are always a sight to behold, and these extinct volcanoes are the Kahuzi and the Biega volcanoes. Furthermore, they also have gorillas that are well protected from poachers as well as a plethora of other animals and plants.
3.) Garamba National Park
When you visit the Garamba National Park (also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List), you will be awed by the vast savannahs it has as well as its majestic grasslands and woodlands. These are filled with all kinds of animals like the giraffes, hippopotamuses, and elephants. You will also see here the unique white rhinoceros as well as the black rhinoceros.
4.) Salonga National Park
This is a tropical rainforest national park and is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List as well. In this immense rainforest, you will see the antics of the dwarf chimpanzee and be amazed of the Congo peacock. This is also made more famous because of the African slender-snouted crocodile or what is also called a false crocodile.
5.) Okapi Wildlife Reserve
Also listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, this reserve is popular for the variety of birds and primates that it has. It also gives anybody who visits this place a true sense of what the beauty of nature is about as they gaze at the waterfalls. Be amazed at the wonderful scenery Ituri and Epulu Rivers offer.
6.) Nyiragongo Volcano
Another beautiful tourist destination, this volcano is a must-see in Congo. Here, you will marvel at the sight of the lava lake. But remember, this magnificent sight posts danger to the people living near it.
7.) Kinshasa
This is the capital city of Congo. Here, you can stay at budget hotels like Al Dar and La Bloque. If you want a nightlife, go to Matonge at night because this is where you can find most of the bars as well as restaurant and popular night clubs.
8.) Falls of Zongo
This is also a great place to go to if you are a nature lover. Here, you will surely love the splendid view of the Zongo Falls and admire the beauty of the nature that surrounds it. You can also stay the night here as you can camp here in a tent or you can rent a bungalow for a night's stay.
9.) Bombo-Lumene Game Park
This is a wonderful place to spend some quality time with our loved ones. You can spend a quiet and peaceful time in the many small gazebos located here. Or you can take a short nature walk along its trails and rest on a quaint bamboo bench if your legs get tired from all the walking.
10.) Bukavu
This is a city in Congo that you can also visit. Here, you will be given a scenic view of Kivu Lake. From here, you can visit the gorillas in Kahuzi-Biega National Park.

Where can I travel in Congo?
Author: Amar Shah
Congo is a country located at the west coast of Africa with a estimated population of 3 million people who predominantly speak French. Brazzaville is its capital, but most people live in the south of the country. Its vast area is made up of swamps, grassland and thick forests with rivers being virtually the only means of internal travel. The vast River Congo and its tributaries form most of the country’s border with DRC Congo. Congo has a normal courtesy that should be observed when visiting people’s homes. Gifts are acceptable as a token of thanks, especially if invited for a meal. Dress should be casual and informal wear is acceptable in most places. Mini skirts and shorts should not be worn in most public places. Artistic carving, traditional and modern dances as well as folk songs play an important part in the Congolese culture which is strongly based on traditions. Do not smoke or drink alcohol in public places during Ramadan. Visitors could check in via an international airport and road which is preferably during the dry season. Within is an equatorial climate with short rains from October to December and long rains between mid January and mid May. The main dry season is from June to October. You could get around by air, inland steamers which ply the many rivers, the ‘Peace Train’ and car hire on the roads which are mostly dusty and sandy in the dry season and impassable in the wet season hence 4 wheel drive vehicles are better. Brazzaville has a minibus and taxi service. There are five good hotels in Brazzaville, three in Loubomo and four in Pointe-Noire. Prices and advance bookings can be obtained via Air France. Accommodation is limited outside these towns. If you are caravanning or camping which is available at Cargo-Point, be sure to hire a guide and take essentials such as water and food. Self serving is available but at high prices in Point-Noire and Brazzaville. The main hotels in Brazzaville have good restaurants serving French cuisine and some specialise in Italian, Lebanese and Vietnamese dishes. Some restaurants like those at Nanga Lake and Grand Hotel in Loubomo specialise in African dishes. National specialities include fish (giant oysters and shrimps), piri piri chicken, mouamba, saka saka and maboke while the national drinks include beer and fruit juice. Take with you some stuff that could be purchased among the shops and colourful markets or street vendors. Get local paintings or carved masks and figures. Later on, you could visit one of the several nightclubs. Some of the best things you could do include; playing golf at the course in the Cite du Djoue, enjoy some good fishing at Lac Bleu, visit the Valley of Butterflies, find a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside at the Loufoulakari Falls and the Trou de Dieu or venture onto the Congo rapids where waterskiing is a popular sporting activity. Brazzaville has marvellous sights like Basilique Sainte Anne, the Temple Mosque, the National Museum and the Municipal Gardens. Pointe-Noire is the main town on the coast with several good beaches. The threat of terrorism is low but travellers are advised against touring except on essential travel, the Pool region which has sporadic rebel activity and Ubangi River which forms the border with DRC.

Places To Visit On Holiday In The Republic of Congo
Author: Andrew Gibson
The Republic of Congo, popularly known as Brazzaville, is regarded the most peaceful of the two Congos. In terms of wildlife and biodiversity, the Brazzaville also has a lot to boast.
Starting from its largest population of chimpanzee and ending with the powerful Congo River. There are a lot of places to see in this humble country that will allow you to imagine the things that exist in the world.
For example, the popular Congo River Rapids is extremely popular, here you will come across a swift-flowing white water. This is a major hit with adventure enthusiasts. The people are rotated through a geyser, facing an ominous waterfall. Manufactured by Intamin, this water ride sweeps its passenger through a series of rapids.
Since there's no track to guide the raft, its motion is unpredictable, and it's impossible to know who in the raft will take the brunt of the rapids. It is extremely likely that you will be soaked while experiencing the rapids so it may be an idea to take with you an extra set of clothes.
The Loufoulakari Falls and the Trou de Dieu gives a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. Each tourist will see a breath taking view of all the vast rainforest of Brazavilla. You will see the green mountains and the horizons of the summer beaches of the country afar.
In the capital city of Brazzaville, there is the beautiful Basilique Sainte Anne and the colourful suburb of Pot Poto. There are other tourist attractions that can be spotted in the city such as the Temple Mosque, the markets at Oluendze and Moungali, the National Museum, the Municipal Gardens and the house constructed for de Gaulle when Brazzaville was the capital of free France. There is a golf course at Cite du Dique. Nature enthusiasts are also advised to see the valley of Butterflies.
The path towards the Congo River also has a spectacular view and has the richest wildlife around. As it lies in the heart of Africa, the water that comes from the river serves as supply to many inhabitants, including humans, animals, and plant life. Rain forests have taken control of most of the land, so that wildlife has tremendously increased through time.
The landscape of the forest has an abundance of wildlife and superb views of the Congo River. Among the wildlife creatures found in the Rainforest Congo are the popular black hippo, manatee, water snakes, reptiles, crocodiles, tortoises, elephants and over 200 species of fish. In the southern part of the Congo, there are also buffaloes, antelopes, zebras, giraffes, and gazelles.
Wildlife in Brazzaville is not the only tourist attraction in the country, there is Pointe Noire in the south where sun worshippers head for a tan. There are clean beaches shaded by palm trees, this is a nice place for tourists to relax and reminiscence of what has been witnessed in the jungle.
There's also Gorges of Diosso with its spectacular cliffs formed by the erosion of the sea and wind. The forest is also home to several indigenous tribes who have maintained their traditional way of life.
