Edmonton, Alberta Events: a Blend of Sports, Outdoors &culture
Edmonton, Alberta Events: a Blend of Sports, Outdoors &culture
Author: Joe Deacon
Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta, one of the provinces in Canada. When you visit Edmonton, you can find many different events that take place throughout the city during the course of the year. The weather in Edmonton is usually cool, but that does not stop people from getting out and having a good time. Some of the Edmonton, Alberta events that take place throughout the year include the annual winter fest that takes place during the month of December, the snowmobile races that take place in January every year, the celebration of spring fair that takes place during the first weekend of April in Edmonton and the annual Book Seller Convention that takes place in the heart of the city each and every August. Throughout the year, there is something for everyone in Edmonton, Alberta. Winter Festival During the entire month of December, Edmonton hosts winter festivals that include snowman building, snowball fights and ice skating. Edmonton gets cold during the month of October and you can pretty much count of snow during the month of December. This is the best time to bundle up and make the most of the winter months by enjoying the snow. If you do not know how to ice skate, do not worry. There are plenty of beginner lessons available. If you want to enjoy the winter in Edmonton, you can do so by participating in one of the many winter festivals that take place throughout the city during the month of December. Snowmobile Racing Snowmobile racing takes place in the last weekend of January in Edmonton. You can participate in this event if you sign up. The venue for the snowmobile racing changes every year so it is necessary to sign up prior to the event so that you understand the route. Anyone who has a snowmobile can participate in this annual event.
Edmonton Celebration of Spring After a long, cold winter in Edmonton, many people are eagerly anticipating the arrival of spring. The spring and summer months are short in this part of Canada, but those who live in Edmonton know how to make the most of them. The Edmonton Celebration of Spring takes place at the last weekend in April and is a time when people get outdoors and enjoy flea markets, street vendors and even a parade to hail the coming of the warmer months. Book Sellers Fair The August Edmonton Book Sellers Fair is meant to give those who have not yet been published a chance to get discovered. There are many self published authors who attend this annual book sellers fair with the intent of getting their books distributed by the major presses, who usually send representatives to see the fair. If you have a book that you want to sell, or if you want to take a look at some of the books by unknown authors as of yet, you can enjoy this annual August Edmonton, Alberta event. Whether you enjoy sports, the outdoors or culture, you can find what you are looking for when you seek out Edmonton, Alberta events.

Adventure Destinations in Alberta
Author: Carlos Montes
For many people, the idea of a vacation spent lazing around isn't particularly appealing; these people want something more out of their vacation time than just a suntan and a hangover, they want excitement! The appeal of an adventure vacation makes a lot of sense when you consider that many people work long hours in jobs that often leave much to be desired in the realm of being mentally stimulating or physically active.
There are many kinds of adventure vacations and tours in Alberta, depending on your interests and abilities. Even if you are moderately fit, there are many places that offer walking, hiking or horseback riding tours; for those with a higher level of fitness, winter snow shoeing might be an appealing option.
There are many places in Alberta that you can travel to for a variety of experiences. Alberta has many mountains, working farms, historical sites, and rivers where you can find interesting and exciting vacation destinations.
For those who enjoy a mountain holiday, there are many mountain destinations in Alberta such as Lake Louise and the Canada Olympic Park.
Lake Louise is Canada's largest ski and snowboarding area and averages 380 cm of snow annually; the resort is also situated within Banff National Park, a World Heritage Site. The Chateau Lake Louise was originally built in the late 19th and early 20th century and is a jewel of a destination in the Canadian Rockies. The resort plays host to skiing, snowboarding, and skating activities as well as sleigh rides.
Canada Olympic Park is the site of the Calgary Olympic Winter Games in 1988. They offer many instructional programs in skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, bobsled, and mountain biking. The Park also has a new zip-line adventure for the adventurous visitor. The Olympic Park also has the benefit of being only ten minutes from Calgary's downtown core.
Alberta has a modern western image that comes from being a ranching province as well as playing host to the annual Calgary Stampede. If you are interested in a real western adventure there are some fabulous opportunities for you. One option is a working ranch vacation where you can learn all about how a ranch functions and help out with the chores. If you'd like to be a bit more adventurous, a backcountry vacation might be up your alley. These camping trips involve trail riding, canoeing, and fishing.
For some people, adventure means not just traveling somewhere new, but also traveling back in time. For those that get a thrill out of this style of travel, Alberta has some exciting destinations as well. One of these time-traveling thrills is near the town of Drumheller.
Drumheller Valley is located in southern Alberta and is the Dinosaur Capital of Canada. The Royal Tyrrell Museum is the only museum in Canada exclusively dedicated to the study of palaeontology and is home to one of the largest collection of dinosaur displays in the world.
There are a good many reasons why those seeking a holiday adventure should come to Alberta; the province has so much to offer and such a variety of adventures to be had. The only hard part about it is going home when you're done!

The Calgary Stampede: Come and be a Cowboy
Author: Carlos Montes
Mention Calgary, Alberta to many people around the world and often you will get a look of recognition and an animated story about an adventure that they had there at a Stampede many years ago.
The ten day long Calgary Stampede draws more than 1.2 million people to the festival every year from all across the globe. Its long standing tradition of displaying the cowboy arts goes all the way back to 1912 and has grown to be the largest outdoor rodeo in the world.
When you think about western culture most people think about the American Wild West, which might make you wonder why Calgary of all places would host such a large event based in cowboy culture. However, for those of us who've had a healthy dose of Canadian history from school, it is no surprise. Those not raised here might not realise that Canada was full of cowboy culture from at least the mid-1800s.
It is true that our western culture was different from that of our neighbours to the south, but many aspects of every life were just the same. Over time these aspects have evolved into the modern rodeo with all of the bull riding, barrel racing, roping, and chuckwagon racing. These entertainments can all be enjoyed yearly at the Calgary Stampede and at rodeo events around the world.
In Calgary it is possible, even outside of the Stampede event, to live in the modern cowboy culture. There are many ranches around the Calgary area where you can go and learn about the cowboy way of life and enjoy horseback lessons and tours. There are also a variety of historical parks around Calgary, including Heritage Park Historical Village. There's even a traditional First Nations festival every summer with the Tsuu T'ina Rodeo and Pow-wow.
If you're interested in cowboy culture or the history of the Wild West, or even just looking for an adventure, come and check out Calgary. While the peak of the western adventure happens every year at the beginning of July, the city and its surrounding area retain their rustic charm all year 'round. In fact, many visitors come out and find that they've fallen so in love with our city that they just can't bear to leave. Come on out and see if you can resist our western charm.
