St Vincent is Volcanic and Mountainous

Author: Douglas Scott

St Vincent and the Grenadines make up part of the Windward Islands and lie south of St Lucia, St Vincent. It is volcanic and mountainous with luxuriant vegetation and black sand beaches. The Grenadines are equally lush. Kingstown, capital of St Vincent, is a lively port and market town on the southern coast. The town contains 12 small blocks with a variety of shops and a busy dock area.

Bequia island lies 14km south of St Vincent and is the largest of the Grenadines. Admiralty Bay, the islands natural harbour, is a favourite anchoring spot for yachtsmen from all over the world.

Heading south, the next port of call is Mystique, a gem in the ocean taking up only 4 sq km. Verdant hills roll into soft white sand beaches and turquoise waters. St Vincent is one of the few islands where good West Indian cuisine can almost always be enjoyed. Specialities include red snapper, kingfish, and souse. Many evening events take place in hotels.

The Caribbean island of St Vincent puts on a spectacular show each year during carnival, is a typical West Indian week of celebrations. Originally a pre Lenten affair, it was shifted to late June so it would not clash with other major carnivals in the region.

A highlight is the Miss Carnival beauty show, billed as the number one Caribbean show of its type. Where revellers disguised as devils with paint and mud daubed on their bodies roam the streets in the pre dawn hours.

In addition, there are competitions to find the King and Queen of the Bands, a Junior Carnival, Steel Band and Calypso Competitions. All the fun is rounded off with a Mardi Gras parade of costumed bands on the last day. Its an amazing time to be on this relaxed, tropical island.

Kingstown is the centre for island nightlife, such as it is, though often thats limited to people hanging out in the streets, with car stereos usually providing the music. For official establishments, try The Attic, at Melville and Greenville, which has live music usually jazz most nights and is a decent and popular place to watch sports on the multi screen Tvs.

Eating options on the island are surprisingly limited, with again the most variety around Kingstown and Villa Beach. Prices tend to be lower in Kingstown than in Villa Beach, where you can expect to pay at least twice as much for food and drink than anywhere else on the island.

Due to its volcanic origins, the underwater topography of St Vincent is breath taking, and there are no shortages of dive operators on the island to help you explore it. Dive St Vincent, next to the Young Island jetty at Villa Beach, offers numerous dives, courses and packages, some of which include accommodation.

A Caribbean Family Vacation To Saint Vincent

Author: Gordon Steven

Saint Vincent, one of the British Windward Islands, is a place to be visited on its own as a Caribbean Vacation Getaway.

Saint Vincent tends to be tagged as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, which includes islands like Bequia, Mustique, Canouan to name but three. What then happens is that tourists arrive at Barbados, catch a flight to Saint Vincent, and another flight or a boat to the island in the Grenadines they will be staying on, without taking any time at all to discover Saint Vincent island.

St Vincent is 18 miles long and 11 miles wide, covering around 133 square miles, so it is big enough to ensure no-one gets bored on a Caribbean family vacation because there is something for everyone, and there is no risk of getting lost provided you have a good map!!

There are lots of reasons to stay on Saint Vincent, and it is worth doing some research because it could be the ideal choice for a Caribbean family vacation.

The island of Saint Vincent is the big island of the Grenadines, and is a mixture of rugged mountains, lush forests and many empty beaches. It has an active volcano to the north of the island called Soufriere which as recently as 1979 spread volcanic ash over a wide area.

This helps the locals with their fruit and vegetable growing, meaning unlike other islands in the Grenadines they are self sufficient.

Soufriere is a great attraction if you are energetic and a bit adventurous, being just over 4000 feet above sea level.

Insofar as the rest of the island is concerned there is a small but bustling with energy capital called Kingstown down on the southwest coast With a hire car you can choose to go north on either coast and the road winds along the coastline. The eastern Atlantic Ocean or Windward side is a pretty rugged, rocky coastline with pounding waves which seem to come uninterrupted all the way from Europe. Some of the coastal scenery is dramatic.

On the other hand a trip up the West coast, which is the Caribbean Sea, or Leeward coast has most of the islands beaches and spectacular scenery. Having said that the best and most beautiful beaches on Saint Vincent are on the south coast, one in particular called Villa is only about four miles from Kingston.

The question of where to stay in Saint Vincent is easily solved because the island has a range of hotels to suit all pockets and tastes. Some would be perfect for a Caribbean Family Vacation, and other perfect for the Caribbean Vacation getaway. Amongst the latter, and almost certainly one of the best hotels in the Grenadines is Young Island a tiny and very exclusive hideaway off the south coast. Equally exclusive and definitely suitable for a Caribbean vacation getaway and only reachable by boat is the tiny Petit Byahaut only four miles north of Kingstown on the Leeward Coast.

Possibly the best value for money is The Tranquillity Beach Apartment Hotel, and Beachcombers Hotel a good choice for families.

There are a number of other hotels certainly worth doing some research on.

There is one certain fact and that is Saint Vincent is beginning to be discovered. It is beautiful and unspoilt and local people treat visitors with a courtesy and respect not always found on a Caribbean Vacation Getaway.

Most Romantic Island and Hotel - Petit St Vincent

Author: Randy Besosa

Petit St.Vincent (locally addressed as PSV) is about 40 miles south of St.Vincent in the Grenadines; a group of islands sprinkled across what may be the most beautiful stretch of water in the Caribbean. Part of the Windward Island chain, the Grenadines drift southwesterly from St. Vincent, the largest of more than 30 islands that make up the nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

PSV is a paradise of soft rolling hills that extends over 113 acres surrounded by two miles of powdery sand beaches, PSV has been tamed just enough to allow for the presence of 22 discreet and simple, yet luxurious cottages.

Lying well off the tourist mainstream, PSV could be best described by what is not there. There is no airport, no formal check in, no keys. There are no televisions nor are there telephones in the cottages, which allows for more time with your significant other uninterrupted.

However, instead of a telephone, in front of every cottage there is a little bamboo flagpole with a message box. Raise the yellow flag and a member of the staff (there are two for every guest) will come and retrieve your message, provide you with room service, or whatever you may desire. Raise the red flag and you will not be disturbed.

The immensely private cottages are sited to make the most of their intimate surroundings.

Some are notched into the hills and bluffs to catch the breeze and savor the views, most of which are just steps from the beach. All the structures are naturally air-conditioned with a combination of ceiling fans, louvered windows, cool terra cotta floors and of course, the ocean breeze.

As remote and secluded as they may be, the cottages are exquisitely appointed. Each cottage is built from native blue stone which is actually quarried on the island, with vaulted ceilings made of purple heart wood, blending beautifully with the itıs terrain.

Each cottage boasts a wooden sundeck, one bedroom, a living room, and one or two bathrooms/dressing rooms, which feature lots of counter space, robes, fluffy towels and a variety of Molton Brown toiletries.

The resortıs culinary endeavors give you the opportunity to enjoy fresh fish, lobster, fruits and vegetables from the islandıs own farms and prime meats from a Boston butcher. You may dine in your cottage or in the main pavilion, which overlooks the harbor.

There are many activities as well. These warm waters are perfect for kayaking, snorkeling, fishing; Constant breezes allow perfect conditions for sailing and windsurfing all included with your stay. The views and relaxing atmosphere will surely make this a memorable experience for you and yours.
