New South Wales Travel Guide and Tours to AustraliaBlue Mountains, Central Coast, Central West, Greater Western Sydney, Far South Coast, Far West, The Hunter (Newcastle), Illawarra (Wollongong), Lord Howe Island, New England (north-west), Murray, Mid North Coast, North West Slopes, Northern Rivers, Riverina, Sapphire Coast, Snowy Mountains, South Coast, Southern Highlands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Sunraysia, Sydney
New South Wales (NSW) has the highest population in
Australia, and is located in the southeast region. In June 2007 the
estimated population was 6.89 million people. Several families have
had additions since then, so it's a little higher now. As in much of
the world, the population concentration is moreso along the coast.
Regional cities with names like Albury, Dubbo, Griffith and Wagga Wagga and towns such as Deniliquin, Leeton and Parkes can be found there. Saying Wagga Wagga is fun. When thinking about Australia, it's good to know that this largish area does not have one clime. Where the west is semi-arid, the eastern part is temperate and wet. But then again the mountains to the southeast are cool to cold all year long with snow in the winter. New South Wales is a nature lover's paradise. It boasts more than 780 national parks ranging from rainforests with monstrosity waterfalls to challenging Australian bush to marine spectaculars and just plain desert. We're talking vastness and diversity aplenty. Sydney is the capital of New South Wales as well as the oldest city in Australia. Some interesting things to do include a visit to the Taronga Zoo, the old Opera House, Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley (For wine tasting) and of course the exciting city of Wollongong for a little nip into the sea. A little further down the line in the Bega Valley you can eat cheese with the wine you purchased (if you haven't drank it all up) in the Hunter Valley. Good information to discuss with your Australia travel agency about your Australia travel package. |
Australia Travel Guide to Northern TerritoryArnhem Land, Barkly Tableland, Central Australia, Katherine Region, Top End
The Northern Territory of Australia is divided into two sub
regions... the tropical Top End and the desert Red Centre. Darwin is the
capital city and is the jumping off point to the dandy things to do on
the Top End.
Australians have been running around the Northern Territory
since caveman Dug was a lad...approximately 40,000 years. The current
population of Dug's descendents was put at 212,600 in 2006. There are
more now. This is only 1% of the total population of the island of
Australia which tells you something of the population density. The fact
is that most folks will be found along the Stuart Highway. Other
settlements are Katherine, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy
in the territory's north-east.
As with Texas, as with Australia. Everything is large there. The Northern Territory boasts two climates. So when thinking of Australia trips or backpacking Australia, it's best to bring your shorts and a jacket. In the northern end you have your tropical climes with lots of humidity and two seasons. The wet season runs from November to April whereas the dry season occurs from May to October. Even during the wet season the temp rarely goes below 57F. Whoopee! Florida folks will need their heavy sweaters. The central region is what they call your primo desert featuring the dry towns of Alice Springs and Ayers Rock. It's semi-arid, which means it gets some rain...a bit less than 10 inches per year. It's also especially warm from October to March. Temps of 118F and 18F have been recorded. That's a 100 degree spread you know.

Focus on Queensland and Tourism AustraliaBrisbane, Bundaberg, Coral Coast and Country, Capricorn, Wide Bay / Burnett, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Mackay, Outback Queensland, South East Queensland, Southern Downs, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, Torres Strait Islands, Townsville, Far North Queensland, Whitsunday
Queensland occupies the northeastern part of the
continent. The population center is in the southeast and includes
the capital Brisbane, Logan City, Redland City, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and
the Gold and
Sunshine Coasts. Other major regional centres include Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Ingham and Mount Isa. Queensland is nicknamed the "Sunshine State" because of the copious warm weather and since a big chunk is considered the tropics. However, because the Queensland takes in such a breadth of territory, there are climate variations. It runs from hot summers and low rainfall to the west to monsoons in the north. Warm weather is the norm on the coast. Brisbane, the state capital in Queensland was originally the Moreton Bay Penal Colony. Today the descendants have forsworn a life of crime to concentrate on agriculture and tourism.
Sun lovers will love Queensland. It's very beachy and mountainous
too. Some points of interest include the Bunya Mountains and the Great
Dividing Range with numerous lookouts, waterfalls and picnic areas;
Carnarvon Gorge; Whitsunday Islands and Hinchinbrook Island.
The main industry for Queensland is the tourist trade...hint hint. According to Wiki, "The main tourist destinations of Queensland include, Brisbane, Far North Queensland including Cairns, Port Douglas and the Daintree Rainforest, Gold Coast, the Great Barrier Reef, Hervey Bay and nearby Fraser Island, North Queensland including Townsville and Magnetic Island, North Stradbroke Island and South Stradbroke Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Whitsundays known for Airlie Beach, Whitehaven Beach, Hamilton Island and Daydream Island."
If you are starved for theme parks, and high Australia
adventure, you'll delight to not one...but several including Dreamworld,
Movie World, Sea World, Wet 'n' Wild and WhiteWater World. For salt and
sea types, you'll want to investigate Moreton Island, North and South
Stradbroke Islands, Bribie Island and St Helena Island. More good
information to discuss with your Australian travel agent.

Focus on South Australia Tours of AustraliaAdelaide Plains, Adelaide Hills/Mount Lofty Ranges, Barossa Valley, Copper Triangle, Eyre Peninsula, Far North, Fleurieu Peninsula, Flinders Ranges, Kangaroo Island, Limestone Coast, Mid North, Murraylands, Riverland, Yorke Peninsula
South Australia sits on the southern edge of the continent
in the middle. It encloses some of the dryest parts of Australia.
1.6 million Australians call South Australia home. Crikey! Most live close to Adelaide with the rest scattered down the coast and along the River Murray. Historically, the thing that sets South Australia apart from the rest of the country is that the Brits claimed this place to live in, while the rest of the country was used as a dumping ground for criminals. (Much like Georgia in the United States.)
Much of the state is arid or semi-arid with some low
mountains, the highest being a respectable 4700 feet. The southern end
of the state has what is called a Mediterranean climate, whereas inland
it can get a little warm. The high temp, in 1960 (well before global
warming!!) was 123F. (Now it must be MUCH hotter!)
Other population centers include Mount Gambier, Whyalla, Murray Bridge, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, Port Lincoln, and Victor Harbor. Touring Australia brings you in contact with towns with interesting names. |
Focus on Tasmania by way of Australia Travel InformationCentral Highlands, Midlands, West Coast, Hobart
Normally, when considering an article on an Australia
holiday, we would present various travel related data first, but
this would forestall the inevitable number one topic of interest
when Tasmania is on the table..... According to Wiki, "The Tasmanian
Devil is a hateful carnivorous marsupial found exclusively on the
island of Tasmania. The size of a small dog but stocky and muscular,
the Tasmanian Devil is characterized by black fur with white
patches. It has a loud and disturbing screech-like growl, possesses
a vicious temperament and is predominantly a scavenger. Sadly,
regulations do not permit these cute marsupials to be shipped from
Australia to points out of country for house pets. In the Americas,
you may substitute a possum where available. The Devil survived European settlement and was considered widespread and common throughout
Tasmania until recently. As with a lot of wildlife, fast vehicles on
roads are a problem for Tasmanian Devils, which are often killed
while feeding on other road-killed animals such as wallabies."
Onto more mundane Tasmania travel matters...
Tasmania is both a state and an island off the coast of
Australia. Surprisingly, even with the presence of tasmanian devils,
Tasmania, the "Island of Inspiration" sports a population of at
least half a million. Half of those folks live in the vicinity of
the capital, Hobart. 37% of the island is off limits to condos,
being in parks and such.
Tasmania features the largest temperate rainforest in the world. Who knew? More fun on your Australia trip. The island gets all of its electricity from hydroelectric. It has a plethora of rivers and most of them have dams on them to capture the rampant floating electrons. You don't get much more green than that for folks who care. Summer runs December to February when the temp drops precipitously to 70-75F. The higher regions go lower. Winter is from June to July when it's rainy down low and snowy up high. Spring is the windy time. For tree lovers, when you decide to visit Australia you have found paradise. Unknown to many, Tasmania has the tallest and oldest trees in the world. Move over redwood forests! We're taking pine trees running to 10,000 years old and, tasty eucalyptus trees of up to 300 feet tall. There was a mountain ash tree that measured 370ft high before they cut it down. Now this is some impressive Tasmania data indeed!!
Travel to Australia can be fun and tasty. Seafood is an
island favorite. Cheese and cold adult brewed beverages too. Travel
in Australia can be about good taste.
The capital of Hobart has 200,000 inhabitants which
makes it a city that is still small enough to know you.

Focus on Victoria and Travel Packages to AustraliaGippsland, The Grampians, The Mallee, Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula, Sunraysia, The Victorian Alps, Western District, The Wimmera, Yarra Valley
Victoria is the second most densely populated state in Australia.
As of 2006 it held nearly 5 million people with 3.6 million in the
capital of Melbourne alone.
Talking about Australia tips, The main output of the region
is insurance and property services, although sheep farming adds a
respectable income to the coffers. There are nearly 3 sheep for every
man, woman, and child, which makes for a lot of lamb chops.
Victoria is decidedly wet, so when you decide on Australia travel bring your galoshes. Rivers include Ovens River, Goulburn River, King River, Campaspe River, Loddon River, Wimmera River, Elgin River, Barwon River, Thomson River, Snowy River, Latrobe River, Yarra River, Maribyrnong River, Mitta River, Hopkins River, Merri River and Kiewa River. Melbourne Airport is the major hub in the region.
Like much of the rest of the country, Victoria, though small
by comparison, is beset with a plethora of climates. Variations range
from semi-arid and hot to temperate and cool. Victoria is the wettest
state, excepting Tasmania. Rain varies from 10 to 71" yearly.
From Wiki, here is a list of major tourist destinations to consider on your Australian Vacation:

(known also for shopping tourism) and the attractions of the city centre
such as Crown Casino, Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Museum, the Melbourne
Aquarium,Science Works, Healsville Sanctuary, Werribee open range zoo,
tourism precincts such as Melbourne Docklands, Southbank and St Kilda as
well as cultural and sporting tourist icons such as The Arts Centre,

Focus on Western AustraliaGascoyne, Goldfields-Esperance, Great Southern, Kimberley, Mid West, Peel, Perth, Pilbara, South West, Wheatbelt, Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands
Western Australia, as a region, occupies one third of the
continent. It is Australia's largest state. The capital is Perth, and
the locals are fondly referred to as "sandgropers." Actually, our source
does not state if this is a nice pet name, so if you have the urge to
call someone a "sandgroper" on your holiday, choose someone of smaller
stature to try it out on.
Average rainfall runs from 55 inches down to 12 inches. However...if you tire of mining and desert, as is typical on this atypical continent, there is northern tropical region with an average rainfall of from 20-60 inches a year, much of it coming all at once. In the hottest section of the state, you may want to bring along your personal air conditioner. The highest recorded temp was 123F in 1998.
Four fifths of the state are semi-arid to desert, and
primarily serves to further mining interests.
Agriculture, though of less importance, does play a big role.
Perth is your initial target for travellers to Western
Australia and there is much to do there. Australia travel is about
discovery.

The Australian Experience
Australia is the sixth largest country in the world. The
country just also happens to be a continent nearly as large as the
United States, only with just about 2 people per square kilometer.
Chances are good that you can find your ancient beach to walk on in
Australia when travelling there.
Australia was about aborigines and aboriginal people, and is
about aborigines and aboriginal people, and will be about aborigines and
aboriginal people again in the future. The new aborigines were largely
the cast offs of Europe, sent to a land far away, which is now a favored
destination for the descendents of the ones who sent them off in the
first place.
Check out the Aboriginal art at Arkaroo Rock, sit around the campfire and listen to some fine old tales. See the land, the vast majority of it, just the way the original Aborigines found it 50,000 or so years ago. Art, dance, myths, music, and the land is what you'll find in Australia, even if only there for the legendary surfing. It's all possible with Australian travel packages. Low population, low crime, strange animals including the kangaroo and the beloved Tasmanian Devil, the Great Barrier Reef where you can feed the sharks, fishing, boating, rafting, dune walk, climb mountains, lay around in the ultra modern cities, or go to the zoo to see strange animals like the North American dog and cat. (Why would you go to another continent to see animals like you have back home? Strange!) Forests, desert, snow, rain and no tornadoes, earthquakes or volcanoes.... Just good, achingly pure pristine environment and lots of bush! Wow! What are you waiting on? Btw, if all of this sounds blasé, you'll want to check out our Australia Adventure Travel! |
